2-Day Kibale & Bigodi Forest Safari

Overview

The 2-Day Kibale & Bigodi Forest Safari is an immersive adventure into western Uganda’s rich rainforest ecosystems, famed for primate diversity, birdlife, and tranquil swamp landscapes. This short safari combines the world-renowned Kibale Forest National Park, home to chimpanzees, with the serene Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, offering travelers an unforgettable wildlife and nature experience within just two days.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Kibale Forest Chimpanzee Tracking

Begin your journey from Fort Portal, Kasese, or Kampala, driving through lush tea plantations and scenic highlands en route to Kibale Forest National Park. Upon arrival, meet your guide for a briefing on park rules, chimpanzee tracking protocols, and safety measures.

The highlight of the day is a guided chimpanzee tracking expedition. Kibale Forest hosts one of the highest concentrations of primates in Africa, including chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. Experienced guides lead small groups through dense forest trails, providing insights into primate behavior and forest ecology. Photographers will find ample opportunities to capture intimate wildlife moments amid the verdant canopy. After tracking, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary and Return

Start the day with a guided walk through the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a peaceful mosaic of papyrus swamps, forest fragments, and open grasslands. This sanctuary is home to a variety of primates, including vervet monkeys, baboons, and colobus monkeys, as well as over 200 bird species such as the rare Great Blue Turaco and various kingfishers. The walk offers a chance to enjoy birdwatching, photography, and interaction with the local community involved in conservation efforts.

After exploring Bigodi, enjoy lunch before beginning the return drive to your departure point. En route, there may be brief stops at local markets or viewpoints to capture final memories of Uganda’s lush landscapes. Arrive in the late afternoon, concluding the 2-day Kibale & Bigodi Forest Safari.
